Edward White Spacewalk

For my final I'm conceiving something akin to our first assignment, Destroy the Icon. I'll be working with collage (digital and handmade) but I won't be using any iconic photograph. Instead I'll use old/new magazine clippings alongside paintings & scanographs (for texture, atmosphere). The images above convey the mood and the style I'm striving for. I don't have a particular image set picked out, but I have a stack of old national geographics.

  1. Love your images so far and your collage idea ... Because of how different they are or might be, be careful to tie them together to create a relatable theme.

  2. Love the idea of collaging and using mixed media. I think that will definitely bring something great to your final piece. Look forward to seeing what your concept turns out to be.

  3. I'm interested to see how you will transform the composition. The style in the photographs above are very interesting, and I'm looking forward to you developing your own in photoshop.

  4. i think this well be great. I have a friend who makes very litttle collages from magazine cut outs and she often includes cut out words to form little poem-ish sentences that make them even more interesting. you could consider doing that too maybe.

  5. I'm really interested to see how the woman in the top image will merge with the other space-oriented images. Hopefully you'll incorporate these images in the final piece alongside the National Geographic images, what do you see your background looking like? I would also consider a personal relevance to the piece if you want!

  6. I like the idea of using the first assignment to create your own images. You'll have to work some to make them all fit together, but I look forward to seeing how you combine traditional and digital media.

  7. This seems to really coincide with the style of the work you've been producing so far in this class so far... it could be interesting all in a series. I like the idea of collage, both digitally and handmade... Those should blend really well together. I'm interested to see if or how this concept relates to you in some way or if there is a specific idea you're trying to convey. Regardless, I think it'll be visually interesting.

  8. I'm very interested in seeing how you combine these images because they are all so different. I love the idea of a collage, and I'm glad you are planning on using texture

  9. Hi Nicholas

Compelling resource images. Seems like a kinda retro sci/fi thing going. You have the obvious skills to create a great image (as evidenced by the last project--wow) But What does it all mean? Is there a narrative? Is it about global warming? Surreal dreamscape? Be very careful with the resolution of internet images. Make sure you bring them into Photoshop and check size before committing to them. If you yank pixels up more than 100 % at least print out a cheap proof to check what the pixels are doing in print land. nasa.gov gives away high rez images, altho probably not retro. If the defense is that it is a surreal dream (top image?) does that mean it is about nothing? How can the images tie into a concept? You don't have to be literal, and in fact should strive to not be literal. But somehow there needs to be a defense for the why of the image.
